Time Out shelter was incorporated in May 1992 and opened its doors on October 25, 1993. The shelter was founded by Cheryl Gay, Terry Morris, and a group of dedicated individuals in Rim Country. Funding is provided through grants, individual and group contributions, government funds, and our Time Out 2 Thrift Shop.
The shelter operates a 24-hour hotline to ensure constant availability and to inform individuals in crisis about victims’ rights to legal protection from harm, harassment or threats, and of the available resources to attain those rights. Time Out partners with the community and its citizens to educate about domestic violence and to work together to support the shelter and its programs—with the final goal being to eradicate family violence.
Services include safety planning, temporary shelter, food and clothing, lay legal advocacy, educational/supportive groups, children and teens’ groups, advocacy, and community outreach. Services are also available to community individuals who are not shelter residents.
Founded in 1998, the thrift shop provides funding for Time Out programs, all located in Payson.
Founded in 2000, this program offers four housing units for families who are survivors of domestic violence and who are ready to focus on safety and security in independent living. Residents of transitional housing have all of the benefits of the shelter program and more.

#1 Several part-time receptionists are needed at the shelter who would be willing to work 4 hours a day, one day a week. Job duties include answering phones and assisting the direct-service advocates. Volunteers must have the ability for fingerprint clearance.
#2 The shelter is also in need of women who enjoy working with children of all ages and who would enjoy teaching crafts to adult women while they are residing at the shelter.
