Organization History:

In 2001, Marlla & Gene Hinds and Jim & Maxine Whitely formed the Democratic Club of Northern Gila County.  Several women later saw the need to form a Democratic women's club as a "spin off" from the NGC Club and was called the Women's Democratic Club of Payson.  They began meeting at the Croswinds Restaurant for lunch, with five participants at their first meeting.  The first elected officers were Marlla Hinds, President; Wanda Walker, Vice President; Wilma Dalby, Secretary; & Maxine Whitely, Treasurer.  Monthly meetings followed with consistently increasing attendance.  About five years later, this group became affiliated with the AZ Federation of Democratic Women.  Some of the first program speakers were Sheriff John Armer; Gail Gorry, educator; Judge Peter Cahill; Diane Prescott, attorney; and Dr. Ginny Creager, educator and political activist.

The elected officers, beginning in the fall of 2005 through May 2008, were the Rev. Deanna "Dee" Hershberger, President; Pat Rollins, Vice President; Myra Herbster, Secretary; and Lil Semoff, Treasurer.  This administration began the process of better organizing this group by unanimously adopting By-Laws, having the Treasurer's books annually audited, renaming the group Democratic Women of Rim Country, attending the State's annual meetings of the Women in Blue at the Capitol in Phoenix with all the AZ Democratic Women's groups, and in 2007 beginning an educational scholarships account that gifted two nursing students at the Payson branch of Gila Community College.
